| phpbb is my favorite. this is basically the only forum software I use, because it is extremely customizable. you can basically edit anything in it, and make it look the way you want it too, most of the software's around don't let you edit everything, the only thing we can't edit on phpbb is the whole security issue. | |

Like PhpBB, you can also customize anything in MyBB too.
Back to the topic:
I started using phpBB about 3 years before and switched to MyBB about 1 year before. Major reason is because of phpBB's security issues.
phpBB has the most powerful community support than any other free softwares, but it isn't as secure as MyBB and SMF. Maybe the new hooks system, that phpBB is going to introduce may help developers to develop more secure mods.
As far the other things, i wish to say, phpBB got the largest database of mods and themes. | |

| the thing is, is it's still phpbb, so it's still has security issues, but you don't have to worry about the security stuff until you get hackers in your forums.. you won't have those until you get big so.. | |
